A Transient 3-D CFD Model for the Simulation of Forced or Natural Convection of the EU DEMO In-Vessel Components

As the EU DEMO reactor will act as a Component Test Facility for breeding blanket (BB), it is foreseen that different BB concepts be tested throughout plant’s lifetime. The maintenance of all in-vessel components (IVCs), D-T fusion machines, must carried out employing remote handling (RH) technology, structural materials activated by neutrons. maintained segment and possibly other nearby segments cannot actively cooled heat up due to decay heat. For these reasons, alternative cooling strategies need thus investigated ensure cool down within limits required RH in reasonable amount time.
